This Made Our Day!!

We would like to take an opportunity to Thank Michael B. Hughes of Market-Ability Inc. for the encouraging words. With such positive and rallying words we are sure to grow and go a long way. This is just the start and we have miles to cover in the journey that we have undertaken that of being THE way groups of people around the world effectively communicate across technologies and mediums.

Daily Summary email problem - Our apology.

Yesterday’s upgrade to add a few new features broke the daily summary emails. Some user’s pointed out that their summary emails contained tasks summary for some other user’s. We have been able to trace the problem to the latest software upgrade and have a fix for the issue. However, we have disabled the daily summary reporting for now until we can be 100% sure that this problem has been fixed.

The error occurred because of a problem in how we were running database queries to select tasks across groups to create a tasks across groups for summary email. The problem didn’t manifest itself in our development and QA environments because of smaller set of data and accounts.

We apologize to our user’s for this inadvertent error and hope that you will forgive us for this mistake. Obviously this type of error is a very bitter pill for us to swallow. We can’t undo what happened but promise to be more careful in the future.

Happy tasking!

Thank You TaskBin Users!

It is very satisfying to see the number of TaskBin users increasing each day. Today is very special, as we have just crossed the 1000 users mark! We would like to especially thank each one of you who has written to us about your user experience and to give us feedback. We value your feedback and appreciate your comments.  We are continually working to make improvements so that TaskBin can work better for you.

What usually happens with any new website, gadget, or tool that we find cool is that it gets a lot of hype and rave for a few days, and then the euphoria wears off. Users end up back to their old ways after the newness wears off. What’s important for us is building products that last, and that become a part of your everyday routine. So keep your comments and feedback coming….and keep tasking!

If you have got time to spare and would like to read some of the blogs that have been talking about us - here’s the list:

meebo me - chat integration with TaskBin

TaskBin and Meebo have something in common - its fans. Since quiet a few of TaskBin users are also Meebo users we thought it would be nice to let them chat with the task owners. So TaskBin now supports meebome widget. Just get ure meebome widget and paste it in your settings page.

A small icon will appear against ure name indicating that you are now available for chat over Meebo. Any of your group members who are viewing your task list on the alphabet page can now chat with you if you are online. So you have a question about a particular task or need some clarification you can chat from inside TaskBin.

Do you like this feature? Would you rather have us do it differently? We are waiting for your comments…

The TaskBin story…

On an evening walk back from a lovely Italian restaurant in Koregaon Park, Pune next to the company guest house, I was reminded of how many tasks were still on my plate. The next day we talked about it at the office, and others had the same feeling that I did.  It was then that we realized the amount of communication needed to handle the things we had to get done, when they needed to be done by, what was already completed, etc.  All of this was taking a considerable amount of our time and effort. This task-management related problem was probably amplified for us particularly, as we are all based out of different cities across continents.

So, this discussion went on and we decided to see if there was a tool we could use for better task-management. A quick Google search listed a bunch of great to-do list web applications like Ta-da List, etc., but they hardly took into account the behavior of teams. We had this thought of creating a “naked organization” where everyone could see what others are doing We wanted everyone to collaborate and be able to add/edit tasks to each others list in addition to their own. This put everyone literally “on the same page”. No need for status meetings, no need for sending emails/reminders etc. to check on who has done what and what didn’t get done. We did not need a project management tool for this (we already use trac for that).  What we needed was a company management tool.  We knew that it had to be extremely simple to use, light-weight and effective.

The concept was exciting enough and since it was the early days of MangoSpring, we thought of defining how this “Naked Organization” shall work and we called it “Organization 2.0″.  After some initial brain-storming we decided to build a simple web app that was designed for working in a team environment.  It took us a few months to build and get it to a point where we could start using it. However, once we started using it internally, the team was unanimous in its opinion that it should be made available as a hosted service on the web so that others can benefit from it.  That’s when TaskBin.com was born.

It is still the early days for TaskBin.com. We have added a whole bunch of things to it since the original idea and expanded the scope a bit (click here to read more about TaskBin features). We are fixing a few bugs we keep running into, getting feedback and working to make TaskBin more useful, robust, and secure. Please email us at feedback@taskbin.com and let us know what you think of it. We would love to hear your thoughts on how we can make it more useful.

Happy Tasking!!

Help us improve TaskBin - Seeking beta volunteer’s

We want to share the thrill of creation which we all experienced while building TASKBIN. We are continuously trying to improve your TaskBin experience by incorporating your way of managing tasks into TaskBin. However, it is nearly impossible for our small team to imagine all the different ways you use the application.

In addition, with so many browsers and operating systems, it is hard for us to ensure an optimized experience on different permutations of these platforms. So we are seeking your help as beta volunteers. If you have an insatiable appetite for all things new, get a kick out of exploring new tools, love to point out mistakes, or have ideas/thoughts on how we can make the application better, we would love to hear from you.

As a volunteer you would help us refine the application by letting us know how you use TaskBin, suggesting improvements, reporting bugs and being our eyes and ears. As a member of our extended team, you will get a sneak preview of Felix - our flagship product that is in the stealth mode.

To participate as a beta volunteer, shoot an email to beta@taskbin.com with your name, email address, your taskbin id (if it is different from your email address), and country. Our product team will contact you ASAP.

Thank you so much and we look forward to hearing from you!

Happy Tasking!

-Anjali

P.S: If you dont want to join the beta program but still have feedback for us please mail us at feedback@taskbin.com

TaskBin: Your brain has more important things to do

Our brain is often the most overworked and most tolerant part of our body. We use it endlessly each day, with no complaints. We do one strenuous physical activity and our back demands attention the next day. We overeat at a party or try out some new food, and our stomach makes us pay. However, no matter how many hours we pour over a crossword puzzle, how many roles we balance throughout the day (employee, parent, spouse, son/daughter, devoted friend), our brain is there for us through thick and thin. And on the rare occasion that our brain lapses and our memory fails us; we are all guilty of saying exasperatedly “How could I have forgotten this??”

We all have ways that we manage the thing we need to do each day. Some of them are effective, but most of them are not. Task managers have been great for many people. There are a lot of tools out there that are designed to help manage your own tasks. But the world today is all about communication and social interaction…and we could all use a tool that helps with this. That is where TaskBin can help!

TaskBin is an intuitive tool that helps you maintain your tasks, and your entire group’s tasks, easily and in real-time. It is about so much more than just staying organized. It is about helping create a balance between you and the people in your life who you interact and communicate with on a daily basis.

All of the tasks in a group are visible to all group members, and they can be edited or completed by any member of the group.
  • Get Things Done: Many times we have more tasks than we can remember. TaskBin helps us get tasks done! With TaskBin, all tasks are managed with simple priorities creating shared task lists that keep us organized and on track!
